Your pulse ox says 98%. Everything’s fine… right? Not always. SpO₂ measures hemoglobin saturation, not how much oxygen is actually being delivered to tissues. A patient can have a normal SpO₂ and still be hypoxic in certain situations, like severe anemia or carbon monoxide poisoning. Understanding the difference between oxygen saturation and oxygen delivery is an important concept for nursing exams and clinical practice.
