When Lavinia Warren wed Charles Stratton (aka General Tom Thumb) on February 10th, 1863, she didn't want to look like the "fairy" the media labeled her. She wanted to look like a dignified Victorian bride. She trusted designer Ellen Curtis Demorest to create a gown perfectly scaled to her 30-inch height. Demorest delivered a silk and lace masterpiece that utilized exquisite tailoring to celebrate Lavinia’s specific proportions rather than hide them. It was a stunning example of inclusive design
