Jay-Z’s father Adnis Reeves abandoned the family when Jay-Z was just 11 years old. Jay admitted that he was resentful and became guarded after his father left, never wanting to become too attached to anyone or anything ever again. He didn’t see his father again until months before his death in 2003, when his mother initiated reconciliation between the two men when she learned that Adnis’ health was failing.
