I first started learning to hoop with water hoops having no idea that they even made hoops without water in them! I was 19 and this was one of the first ones I would practice with. Being filled with water, the centriphical force made it VERY difficult to do tricks. It was also really freaking heavy. I felt like such a failure, it was so hard for me to learn new tricks.
