No one knows how homing pigeons find their lofts. I suggest it depends on a field that connects them to their home like an invisible elastic band, giving them a sense of direction. I have tested this using mobile pigeon lofts, including an experiment carried out with the Royal Dutch Navy in which pigeons their home was moved 6,000 miles on the Atlantic Ocean.
