In 1889 the Naples pizzaiolo Raffaele Esposito created a masterpiece that became Italy most famous pizza. When Queen Margherita of Savoy visited Naples he prepared three special pizzas one of which featured the colors of the Italy flag with red tomatoes, white mozzarella and green basil. The Queen was so impressed with this patriotic creation that the pizza was named in her honor and Esposito version at Pizzeria Brandi became the standard for Neapolitan pizza making. | History Vault
