The desert elephants of Namibia’s Hoanib Valley. It’s truly amazing to see these large animals thriving in such an arid and unforgiving environment. On our current safari we have been surprised by the number of these animals considering the lack of water (around 20mm per annum) and limited food supply. They spend most of there time along ancient riverbeds, where they are able to find what they need to survive. These elephants are not a different species of elephant, but have adapted to to surviv

Namibia’s desert elephants are taught by their elders how to survive in one of the harshest environments of our planet. These elephants do not push over trees as much as elephants elsewhere because they know they might have to utilize them the following season.
