Ze reisden gewaarschuwd door experts dat het gevaarlijk was, bovendien wisten ze dat deze apen mensen niet altijd accepteren. Toen de vrouw arriveerde kreeg ze eerst de koelheid van de groep te voelen. Toch ging ze op eigen risico over de barrière. Het resultaat zou niet zijn zoals verwacht.

Damian Aspinall Aspinall Foundation Kifu Western The Aspinall Foundation is a world-renowned animal conservation charity founded by John Aspinall in 1984, which focuses on reintroducing captive-bred animals into the wild and protecting endangered species in their native habitats around the world. The foundation manages Port Lympne and Howletts Wild Animal Parks in the UK as well as numerous overseas projects, including successful gorilla reintroduction and rewilding programs in Congo and Gabon.

In July 2021, Freya Aspinall, joined Father Damian and the Aspinall Foundation rewilding project team for Joshi’s Journey to Congo, before heading to visit the gorilla orphanage established by her grandfather. It was there that the true extent of her unique bond with gorillas was captured on camera for the first time.
