In this video, I use a technique called "underpainting" to shade the gloves. It's much easier to get consistent values (and a lot of fun to play with texture) when you're only using one color. After the brown and black shading was done, I filled in the red color. Since airbrush paint is mostly transparent, you end up with a nice smooth shaded piece.
